Today’s review comes to you from purely from a spectator’s point of view so bare with me & enjoy the commentary!
“I’m just here to lose balls & have a good time”.
Unfortunately the range closed was closed today due to the buckets of rain we received overnight. To the putting greens it is…The practice green was pretty crowded with more than 10 people. Too peopley for me to want to get out of the cart & get any close-ups. Matthew was also feeling the discomfort of the crowd as he was hoping to get in some chipping practice. Looking like it’s going to be a slow day on the golf course.
Overview
Tee Time : 12:45
Hitting from the White Tees
Cell Service : Slow AF but enough to stream music & if you can’t get any service at all - the high tech golf cart provides a radio & bluetooth capabilities.
Golf Cart : High tech with a range finder & other useful features such as hole view, approach view, Bluetooth hookups, weather & a digital scorecard.
Grounds
The grounds are always well maintained at this course even for it being off season & recently flooded from the heavy rains. I also appreciated the decent amount of trash cans available to help golfers keep it so maintained.
Bathrooms
I always wish there was a map of all the bathrooms for every course so I’m going to make that my mission for our readers & my own future use. There were enough bathrooms on the front 9 but I could always use more on the back 9 when the seal has been fully broken…if you know what I mean! Someone’s morning coffee was going right through them in the club house bathroom but it still received Matthew’s rave review of “pretty alright”.
Bathroom at the Club House
Bathroom on the end of Hole 4
Bathroom on Hole 7 (same as 4)
Bathroom on Hole 10 (club house)
Bathroom on Hole 13 (porta potty)
Tee Time : 12:45
Shoes were soaked on the first drive & Matthew fully regretted not bringing a second pair of socks. Don’t worry - wifey has noted that for future rainy golf days.
And we’ve hit our first & hopefully last sand trap of the day on hole 1. Not to worry - this is kind of Matthew’s thing & he was out in 1 swing. Unfortunately ping-ponging it all around the green but we’re just getting started!
Hole 2
This is where we pump up the jams - today we’ll be listening to The Chainsmokers thanks to our young crowd of teenagers we got paired up with…The Chainsmokers are still hip right?
Matthew’s second drive of the day showed improvement - low & easy - we’ll take it!
Onto the fairway, Matthew is receiving some nice compliments using his least favorite club - the 6 iron. Really getting some smash factor on those beautiful shots!
*Side Note*
My man is looking fly in his all black ensemble. Rocking his cozy Titleist beanie he just got for Christmas, Greg Norman pants & Nike golf shoes that will need a serious pressure wash after today’s golf round.
Hole 3
I have to pee - eyes are peeled for the nearest restroom. Matthew‘s ball landed in a number of downhill lies so we also rushed through the putting thanks to a pretty miserable start on this hole.
Hole 4
The golf balls are a muddy mess & I was given the wonderful task of cleaning them. What happened to those cool ball washers I used to love playing with as a kid? We definitely didn’t see a single one on the grounds.
I have located the bathroom!! Had to walk across a few puddles INSIDE the bathroom. I am thinking they were from the heavy rains - at least I hope they were! Despite the mysterious puddles, this restroom seems to have been recently cleaned & fully stocked.
Hole 5
Lots of chatter & laughter from the tee box - we’re all friends now, yay! Matthew doesn’t seem to play very well on this golf course but we’re still holding out hope for a better score today. Aaaand we’ve made it 30 yards - might as well just play with the putter…A few shots later was a 30 foot put into the hole with a wedge - so ya know, win some, lose some.
Hole 6
My lucky number - it’s gonna be a good one, I can feel it! We’ve got a great drive as Matthew got under the ball just right. When it FEELS good, it’s gotta BE good!
Hole 7
We’ve stopped taking score & are just focusing on having fun now! Which was probably for the better with the wind picking up, that element won’t be doing us any favors. Orrrr did it actually just help him out?! Straight over the water & onto the green he goes! 7 iron on the 7th hole was the ticket my friends. The putting on the other hand brought some issues for the golfers as they had a difficult time with the uphill battle of this green.
We’ve hit another bathroom (same as the one from hole 4 is also accessible here). I don’t need to go as it’s way too cold for day drinking & I haven’t consumed my normal amount of liquids.
Hole 8
The first golfer up is having trouble finding a stance from the tee box in its swampy glory so Matthew opted for the red tees on this hole & the rest of the golfers have followed.
The Cart Girl has made an appearance! I used to think they were either mythical creatures or only came out when the wives were gone as I never saw one until a year into our golf adventures. As she shivered on by, she suggested we place a hot order to warm us up. Perfect timing as we got an alert from our high tech golf cart as we arrived to hole 9 to place our order.
Hole 9
I can’t feel my toes or my nose but Matthew is determined to play a full round. Time to give a little feeling back to my extremities & take a break from my notes for a brief moment.
Hole 10
A great midpoint of the game to take a food, drink or bathroom break at the club house. We picked up our hot dogs that were basic but tasty enough. We both enjoyed the freshness of the buns.
Hole 11
Another good drive, another lost ball - that is all.
Hole 12
A nice shot off the fairway & is shaping up to be the best hole yet! It’s all downhill...it’s all good from here!
Hole 13
If you‘ve really gotta go… & we know you do if you’re day drinking, there’s a porta potty at the start of this hole. 1/10 do not recommend. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in FIVEever but what more can you expect from a porta potty?
And an ABSOLUTE RIPPER! That recent food & bathroom break really seemed to help Matthew focus a little better. Though he did need a gentle reminder not to rush through the fairway & ruin a perfectly good shot.
Hole 14
Feel open but it gets narrow toward the green. Well for starters, the drive was not lost. In fact, it was quite a beautiful shot! On the green in TWO, let’s keep these vibes goin’! Matthew’s putting game finished us up with a par on the scorecard. First par of the day - FINALLY!
Hole 15
Again, it’s not lost, we’ll take it! I made a doggy friend from one of the nearby homes. He so badly tried to chase everyones drives from behind the fence. It was absolutely adorable to watch & definitely took away my focus from the game.
Hole 16
We got a notification from our golf cart that the sun would be setting in 15 minutes so we quickly began racing against the sunlight on this hole. Luckily we’ve got a fresh tee box for our last hole of the day! Probably one of the few if not the only tee box that was not swamped out today.
Recap
While the day started off slow, cold & miserable - one of those things changed from hole 12. At this point there were no more gimmes, steals or mullys. Matthew got in plenty of great shots & even a few pars!
