TL;DR: This place is awesome. It’s a MTB Riding or Camping family’s dream weekend trip. Packed with both beauty and fun. GO CHECK IT OUT!
Where to start with Vailocity?
I suppose we start with the trails, that’s what brought me to this beautiful slice of MTB/outdoor heaven- but there is so much more to this place than just a “Bike Park”.
Vail has one of the best collections of trails in SoCal. Very well maintained, very well built, great drainage, great signage, with a great trail system layout. There is over 25mi of trails built currently with that number growing actively as new trails are being built daily. There is literally something for everyone to ride here. Prefer to pedal a BMX bike? Hit the jump line or the pump track. Jump line has some great doubles and tables and is a ton of fun to run laps on. The pumptrack is located right at the center/entrance to the entire trail system so makes for a great warmup to get some blood flowing. Weather you’re on BMX or a full-sus enduro, the pumptrack is really beginner friendly and ton of fun for all skill levels. All features are rollable and consist of gentle tabletops, fast berms, some pump whoops and rollers - anyone can enjoy the pumptrack.
My favorite trails are the black diamonds Matco & Magnaflow.
They are gently pushing my skill level. I have yet to ride the other blacks as of this writing; OG, Fat-Tire, Bullfrog, Marlin>Funner, and Ranoa Flow all are “new-to-me” trails that I’m excited to ride. The blue trails are a ton of fun too. Honestly I haven’t ridden a trail there yet that wasn’t a lot of fun and -dare i say- even the XC trails I’ve ridden were flowy and fast and well built. The bike park is amazing and has a singular climb -ambulance, and upper ambulance- that leads riders to all the trail heads; which is great trail design and nearly all descents lead back to the same middle of the trail/bike park common area. Overall the bike park is a ton of fun with lots of trails to explore with tons of elevation change - a little something for every rider, and tons of fun for advanced riders. GET OUT ON THE TRAIL!
Now if you’ve survived this long winded review thus far, keep reading because WAIT THERES MORE!
Vailocity(KOA) is also a campground that offers RV parking with or without hookups; luxury hotel style cabins for the “no-camping” type campers; there’s even glamping tent options being built as I’m writing this. Lastly, tent sites are available if you want to really get in touch with the wilderness.
The resorts property offers a cafe that serves hot meals; Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner accessible to all visitors. There is a small bar for the adults looking to wind down from a busy day full of biking/hiking/swimming/horseshoes/putt-putt/horseback riding or just chilling out by the lake in the sun. They have multiple swimming pools that are temperature controlled. And oh yeah did I mention there is an 18 hole mini golf course! Yeah this place basically has it all. Tons of stuff to do for the outdoor types, and some natural beauty to soak in for the not so outdoorsy types too. I just recently learned about this place but I had to make it my first “Trail Review” because it’s really just that awesome. Oh yeah - I almost forgot, they even have 4-6 seater golf cart rentals to get around the resort property if you’re feeling particularly lazy.
Get out to Vailocity(KOA) to check out the trails and some of the other amenities they offer - you will have a blast without spending a fortune, and the family will surely find something to enjoy too, kids and “better halves” alike.
Signing off,
MTB Matt
